Crane — Ribbon-Air Clarity, Paper-Driver Warmth
A modern horn-loaded AMT paired with the Alpair 12P, delivering remarkable openness, speed, and natural tone in a refined two-way design.
The Crane Concept — Effortless Air and Detail
Crane combines the rich, organic midrange of the Alpair 12P Japanese paper driver with the clarity and air of the Beyma TPL-150H — enhanced further by the Shinjitsu-designed dispersion lens.
Unlike conventional dome tweeters or even many compression drivers, the TPL-150H offers exceptional microdetail, lightning-fast transient response, and wideband clarity without harshness. The result is a presentation with openness and ease while maintaining the natural tonal balance of the 12P.
For listeners who want the purity of a horn-loaded AMT and the warmth of a full-range paper driver, Crane represents the most refined expression of that pairing.
Drivers & AMT System
- Mark Audio Alpair 12P paper-cone extended-range driver
- Beyma TPL-150H — horn-loaded AMT for maximum realism and low distortion
- Shinjitsu Custom Lens — smooths directivity, enhances dispersion, and improves integration
- Crossover: Precision-tuned Shinjitsu network for seamless integration
AMT Voicing Options
Crane allows subtle voicing adjustment to tailor how the horn-loaded AMT blends with the Alpair 12P by changing the top mounted resistor This adjustment does not change crossover topology or system safety — it simply shifts the perceived balance.
Bold
More vivid and present. The AMT becomes slightly more forward, emphasizing air, microdetail, and transient snap. This setting highlights spatial cues and fine detail, especially at lower listening levels.
Neutral
Even and natural. The AMT and paper driver integrate seamlessly, delivering realistic tone, stable imaging, and effortless flow. This is the reference voicing and the recommended starting point.
Relaxed
Smoother and more laid-back. The AMT settles back slightly, favoring warmth, body, and long-session comfort. Ideal for bright rooms or listeners who prefer a more organic, analog presentation.
All voicing options are intentional and safe — choose by ear.
Cabinet Construction & Joinery
Hand-built from ¾″ Baltic Birch plywood — selected for stiffness, longevity, and controlled resonance. The cabinet mirrors the Lantern form factor while being optimized for the AMT’s dispersion characteristics.
¼-Inch Solid Exotic Wood Front Baffle
Each baffle is cut from a solid hardwood slab — not veneer. Available species include Seasonal species include walnut, oak, Brazilian hickory, black limba, and wenge. See wood options page for details. Every pair is grain-matched and hand-finished.
Rabbet-Joint Joinery
- Large glue surface for superior bonding strength
- Mechanical interlock for cabinet rigidity
- Self-aligning construction for accuracy
- Visible end-grain highlights true woodworking
